Head-Banging Baboons

In one way it is strange to hear about primates reacting to a certain type of music, but in another way it is no real surprise. If I had imagined a monkey ‘getting down’ to a particular style then I would have pictured it being heavy metal. After all, you would hardly see chimpanzees boogieing away to hip-hip or disco, would you?
It has made me wonder if other animals are into other genres. Camels listening to Moby, sheep chilling to Pink Floyd and chickens jiving away to old fifties rock’n’roll. The possibilities are endless.
The other thing that this story made me wonder was; why are scientists playing heavy metal music to monkeys? Wouldn’t they be better off channelling their talents into something a bit more important?
Oh well, what do I know about any of it anyway? Besides, I had better go and put on another Fine Young Cannibals CD for the dog.
